Words of wisdom for today

Council of Trent

I am in the process of reading the council of Trent’s report at this time. It is quite enlightening to say the least and completely contrary to the teaching of Scripture. No wonder the Reformers did the right thing and left the Roman Church. To do less would be to incur God’s Holy and Just wrath. Just a little tid bit from the council of Trent’s documents.

This seems very convient of the “mother church”, not only to hold the truth, but to decide what is truth, by being the sole interpreters of Scriptures, this sounds very familiar, it is exactly the same thing that the Pharisee did under the old testament dispensation. They were the sole determiners as to the meaning (interpretation) of Scripture. The papacy is the sole determiner of what scripture means as if they had a corner on the meaning.

“Furthermore, in order to restrain petulant spirits, It decrees, that no one, relying on his own skill, shall,–in matters of faith, and of morals pertaining to the edification of Christian doctrine, –wresting the sacred Scripture to his own senses, presume to interpret the said sacred Scripture contrary to that sense which holy mother Church,–whose it is to judge of the true sense and interpretation of the holy Scriptures,–hath held and doth hold; [Page 20] or even contrary to the unanimous consent of the Fathers; even though such interpretations were never (intended) to be at any time published. Contraveners shall be made known by their Ordinaries, and be punished with the penalties by law established.”

Only the scriptures can interpret themselves and all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof and for instruction in righteousness. The Scriptures, not tradition or the interpretation of Scripture, but scripture itself determines its own meaning, by comparison with itself (contextually) . The Roman Church would have joined the Pharisee in condemning Christ to death. The Roman  Church can not determine the sense (interpretation) of Scripture, because to really do so would contradict their errant system. The very meaning of Christs message to the Pharisee is that tradition had no validity only the written Word had validity. Our savior went out of his way to disobey the Pharisee interpretation (better then 600 codes), but at the same time obeyed the written Word completely. To obey the modern version of the Pharisee (the Roman Pontiff and his crowd) is to be anathema to the real believer. I must believe and obey God not the legions of men set in high places either ecclisiological or political. I serve the risen Christ and Him alone.
