Words of wisdom for today

The Catholic church in error again

In an article in a Canadian newspaper the Vatican is reported to have said: ‘”These ecclesial communities which, specifically because of the absence of the sacramental priesthood … cannot, according to Catholic doctrine, be called ‘churches’ in the proper sense,” it said.'” Surely, this should not go unchallenged by any protestant. It is a completely groundless statement. First and foremost there is no evidence that the early church had anything even remotely comparable to a ‘sacramental priesthood’, this was added by the early popes and does not appear much earlier then the fourth century. Before that time churches had bishops (elders) and those elders were the pastors of churches, such as the Roman, Ephesian, Colossian and Phillipian church, they were never ever considered as being priests.  All believers are priests and are responsible directly to God. No sacrifice is ever needed following that of our Savior. Hence this idea of a sacrificing priest is foreign to the new testament church. Second, the Catholic Church is not churches anyway it is just simply Church. Whatever happened to the simplicity of the New Testament church, it was lost when these early apostates added something foreign to the church. The hall mark of the Reformation is that the only authority in the church on doctrine is the Word of God (Sola Scriptura) comparing the scriptures to this statement from the Catholic Church the obvious answer is the Scriptures say absolutely nothing at all about priests. The church that is not the true church is the Roman Catholic churh they are an apostate hoare.
