Should We Hope Obama Fails?

I will not and cannot say God bless you to Obama as long as he stands for abortion. He also is standing against those of us who stand for the Biblical Christian faith as spelled out in the Bible. He has made it perfectly clear that we should give up what we believe and join in supporting his vision of what America should be. He is wrong and needs to be told as such, but this will not happen as long as there are those that are willing to give a blessing to this modern day anti-Christ.

from Pond’Rings:

There has been quite a bit of controversy over an article by Joseph Farah in WorldNetDaily, and over comments by Rush Limbaugh, about their statements hoping—indeed indicating Christians should pray for—Obama to fail. Several breathless stories have been reported in the mainstream media, their reporters aghast at the prospect of Christians praying for the failure of a sitting President. Before diving into the issues, a little perspective.

It’s a bit ironic for a mainstream media that has spent eight years berating a sitting President—Bush—and hoping he fails. Bumper stickers abounded over the last eight years, saying things like: “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.” Sculptures were made, dreaming, wishing, that George Bush had been aborted. Not only did the liberal media hope for George Bush to fail, they opined that he should be impeached, and wished for his physical demise. What we are hearing from Rush and WND don’t hold a candle to the sorts of things that have been said about George Bush, or even Ronald Reagan.

But, moving beyond this, should Christians pray for a sitting President to fail? The key verse you’re always pointed to on this subject is 1 Timothy 2:1-2, which says:

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

When we examine this passage, we find something interesting. While there are many things a government may take on itself the power to do, there only some specific things called out for a Christian to pray about.
  1. That all people, including these rulers, learn the truth of Christ, and come to salvation.
  2. That rulers rule in such a way that we may lead quiet, godly, and dignified lives.

What we seem to miss is that a government can be broken into three pieces.

  1. The individual people within government.
  2. The policies and actions of the government that fall into the role God has given government.
  3. The policies and actions of the government that do not fall into the role God has given government.

The first of these three is covered in Paul’s statement that we should pray for all people, including for kings who in high positions. This is a prayer for the individual person, as a person, to come to salvation, or a knowledge of the truth.

The second of these three is covered in the prayer for a peaceful and quiet life, a godly and dignified life. For these are the things a government is supposed to guarantee, the things a just government would provide.

The third thing is not covered at all. Government is not to provide social justice, for that perverts justice. Government is not to provide abortions, for that is murder. Government is not to force Christians to do things which go against their beliefs, for that would be preventing them from leading Godly lives.

So, the entire point Paul is making is we should pray for the individuals in the government, as people, and we should pray for the government to execute well those things which are within the province God has given government. But to pray for success at destroying Christian ideals, or to pray for the success of theft in the name of social justice? Neither of these things are indicated here, or elsewhere.

That so many Christians accept this line of reasoning shows the shallowness of their understanding of the Scriptures—or, perhaps, even more, their willingness to discard what the Scriptures actually say in favor of what they really want the Scriptures to say, or what they think sounds nice in polite company.

This tendency we should be very careful of.

Economics

A prophets primary concern is not primarily fore telling future events, but forth telling of God’s message to the nation or the people. Where the fore telling part has ended the forth telling part will never end.

There is no real simple answer to the monetary crisis that we are facing at this time. The causes of it are multitude and not just caused by one particular political party. I blame this problem on the Democrats and the Republicans, simply because we have Republicans in the White House and Democrats in the congress and both seem unable or unwilling to address the problem. The value of the dollar has taken a big hit, this coupled with expenditures that do not add anything back to our economy are beginning to destroy America.

The war in Iraq is part of the problem, a big part, but it is not necessarily the most important part. It would have helped if we had gotten out of Iraq entirely last year, but now the damage has been done and it is irreversible. Spending money on a war that is not only not winnable, but has no end in sight is foolish. Wars in the past have generally helped the economy, but this was when manufacturing was geared up to produce weapons and machinery for war. We are siphoning off energy to use in the war and that is creating problems at home at the gas pump.

The moral quagmire that we have immersed ourselves in since the 1960’s is by far the largest part of the problem. We seem convinced that we can have a huge amount of personal freedom, but zero amount of personal accountability. We are killing millions of future Americans and do not even seem to care. Abortions are increasing at an alarming rate. Today our society demands the most out of “I”, even if it means destroying an unborn life. God help it if something should get in the way of “I” even if it is a helpless little one. No mater how this particular problem is addressed it is still pre-meditated murder. We do not want to put the ten commandments up in courthouses let alone in schools. This aparently because we do not want God envolved in our national life. Well guess what folks, He is involved anyway and the Judgment day is approaching, but it is not to late to repent.

We are spending millions of dollars a year on entertainment of all kinds and an equal amount on drugs and alcohol. Our churches have swallowed the current trends in business trying to make the message palitible and they are getting bigger, but they have sacrificed preaching the word of God in its entirety to do it. We no longer preach about sin, righteousness and judgment for fear that some group will be offended. We want to pack people into our churches and we want them to be comfortable with what we say. We want them to come back to our churches like they do to McDonald’s. Folks we are not McDonald’s we are the church that Christ built and we have His message to preach to the nations. The message is more important then the people and allegiance to God’s Word should take our primary attention.

We do not even believe in nor practice the first eleven chapters of Genesis. The gospel is now just a quaint story and the Bible is full of errors to many. We need to repent now and return to preaching the truths of God’s Word before it is too late. The departure from faith in the message that started in Genesis is slowly eroding what is left of our moral values and convictions. It is surprising how the message of the book Genesis has effected everything we do and think. If the doctrines that are derived from Genesis are lost then so is everything else. Genesis 3 records the fall of Adam and hence the whole race, this important doctrine can be followed from Genesis to Revelation. Romans 3:23 declares “(Rom 3:23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
” Romans 6:23 tells us that the “(Rom 6:23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans also tells us that “(Rom 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” This message would not exist if it were not for the book of Genesis, gut the book of Genesis and the Christian message disappears.

Our friends and neighbors do not need a message they want to hear, but a message that they need to hear. We should not be primarily tailoring a message that makes them feel good, but a message that will turn them to the truth. (2Ti 4:3) “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;” Messages that are tailored to make them feel good won’t get them saved.
